I use FreeNAS 11.2 to make iSCSI disk share.
I config esxi's iSCSI settings,then I can see FreeNAS iSCSI Disk in esxi's Storage->Device. The esxi's version that I use is 6.7 update2.
I try to use the FreeNAS iSCSI Disk to create Vmfs Datastore. At last step,I click 'finish' , the following error occured.

How could I sove thi problem?
I have VMWare Essentials Plus with 2 servers in it. Yesterday i have reinstalled ESXi on one of them.
1) When i tryed to add host back to ESXi, vCenter told me that datastore from new ESXi host is allready exists in cluster
2) I found guide, unmounted, deleted and created new datastore on this ESXi host, so it was added to vCenter without problems.
3) I configured vMotion and start trying migrate VMs to this host and reciaved message: Could not complete network copy for file /vmfs/volumes/*.vmdk
when i reisntalled ESXi and added it to vCenter before, there are allways no problems, but this time, i migration dont whant to work.
- MTU on vSwitch where configured vMotion is 1500 on both hosts
- I checked with vmkping, each host can ping another
Servers connected through local network of company on one interface and sirectly one to another on second interface. Both interfaces are pingable with vmkping and have MTU 1500.

Hello all,
I found a lot of interesting posts in this forum, about USB issues on ESXi. I’ve tested several solution, but none has worked.
My problem is that I can’t attach an USB disk on a VM client.
I have 2 issues:
- xhci driver don’t work
- ehci driver seems to work, but a Linux (debian 10) client don’t detect the disk
Here are the errors :
- VM Event on Esxi web gui:
The device “Western Digital Elements 10B8” could not connect to its ideal host controller. The system will attempt to connect this device to the best available host controller. This can cause undefined behavior for this device.
- On the client Linux Debian 10:
Could you please help me ?
Thank you !
—————
My configuration:
- ESXi version (fresh install) : 6.7.0 Update 1 (Build 10302608)
- Intel Nuc, 2 CPUs x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4010U CPU @ 1.70GHz
- ESXi server installed on an USB key
- usbarbitrator running
So I have content Library setup and working fine when deploying it to an ESXi host in the same subnet.
However when deploying it to ESXi hosts in another subnet. It fails with the following error
"Transfer File(s) - Cannot connect to host"
The question is what port is it trying to transfer the files with from the vCenter server to ESXi host ?
Regular templates work fine, it is just issues with trying to deploy VMs from Content Library to ESXi hosts that are on different subnet compared to the vCenter.
Hi All,
I am running a VM and the host is Windows Server 2012 R2. I noticed today that I have one of my virtual disks, which is a Thick provisioned, eagerly zeroed.
When I look at the disk under Windows, it shows it is 100% fragmented. It was my understanding that it is not recommended to run a defrag. My question is does anyone know is this is normal to see 100% fragmented reported in Windows and is it still not recommended to run any defrags? None of my other disks show this. Just this one. Thanks.
Hello,
I have an esxi 5.1 U2, that some system logs are not updating.
The file .vmsyslogd.err has the following information:
2020-03-23T13:22:26.803Z vmsyslog | : CRITICAL] vmsyslogd daemon starting (2409) |

2020-03-23T13:23:15.482Z vmsyslog.main | : ERROR ] <hostd> failed to write log, disabling |
I've check the file sytems, and there is enough space.
I've also revised the scratchconfig location, and points to valid path, as well as the syslog global dir:
The end of the hostd.log file is:
How could I solve this issue? The server keeps rebooting randomly, and I can't get why is doing so.

Hi Folks,
I have a couiple of VMs that was used as part of the Disaster Recovery Environment. I was using Veeam to do failover from my production to environment.
Everything was working well until we decided to switch back to production. One of our junior admins did a "undo failover" instead of "permanent failover"
This meant that all our data have been lost for up to 1 week. We had the VMs running for 1 week. Is there any way to recover the lost data?
I have been trying to upload a VM from VMware workstation to VMware ESXI server (Esxi 6.7 A01)
I edited the hardware compatibility of the VM to ESXI 6.5 and created a clone.
When trying to upload the VM to esxi server i get the following error:
Upload failed: Invalid configuration for device '0'.
How do I go about resolving this issue?

Hi guys,
I m a network person last one month itself i started to learn vmware, and also I want to make new virtual lab in college environment, i plan to use vmware esxi free server to create virtual machines and connected this machines via Thin client ,
I know to use vmware esxi , and also i having idea about this, but some confussion to implement this setup ,
my question is how to make this setup , i hope u guys understand needs,.
And one more thing is i want to setup this low cost because colleges are don't spent more money to buy licensed vmware server, thats why i m going to user free version ,
I m going to use Vmware esxi 4.1 (hybervisor) free version , can i do this via this version and also going to create around 200 virtual machines ,
1.How many physical servers requires to do this.
2.Can i create 200 virtual machines using vmware esxi 4.1.
3.How to store datas and vm images.
4.Can i take installed vms Remotely via thin client.
5. Is there any alternative solution to setup this lab.
Please help friends your small tips that will help me lot, i m waiting for your reply , thank you guys.

Hello,
I am setting up a lab at home. I have install a virtual ESXi 6.7 host in WOrkStation 15.5 on windows 10. In my physical machine I have a nic card with four ports in it. I have attached two of these to Workstation and then the virtual ESXi server. The ESXi server is not managed by vSphere. These Physical NIC are then attached to two ports on a Cisco 3750 with the below config for each port
Switchport Trunk Encapsulation dot1q
Switchport Mode Trunk
Switchport Trunk Allowed Vlan 1,10,20,30,40
Spanning-Tree Portfast Trunk
Interface VLan1
IP Address 10.0.1.5 255.255.255.0
I have created two VSwitches (vSwitch1 and vSwitch2), one for each physical NICs and assigned a prot group to each of them for VLAN 1. My problem comes when trying to get VMs to comunicate to each through the physical switch that is attached.
A Windows 2016 server (10.0.1.10) in attached to vSwitch1 - Physical NIC1, and a Client Windows 10 (10.0.1.20), vSwitch2 Physical Nic2, have been installed. If both devices are on the same vSwitch them can communicate. The siwtch show mac address-table command shows the MAC addresses of the VMs, and a show IP arp show the correct layer 3 addresses with the correct VLAN ID.
I have no idea why these cant talk to each other, unless it is something to do with have a virtual ESXi server. Any help will be greatly apreciated.
Just to add to this i would let t set it up in this way as I want to install a virtual wireless lan controller and need to use vsitches to trunk the ports, without paying for an actual ESXi server.
Kind regards,
Chris
Hi all,
I'm currently using NFS(4.1) datastore mounted to standalone ESXi (6.7) host as data storage (NFS server is setup on remote PC with Ubuntu on it). While copying data to NFS datastore I get maximum limit of an ISP provider, but when moving data from NFS datastore to HDD datastore on ESXi host the transfer speed is extremely slow.
I have tested network speed with iperf3 between remote PC, ESXi VM and ESXi host and it's in top limits of ISP provider. Also tested and got a decent HDD R/W on ESXi host, which rules out the HDD side.
Every performed test returns expected transfer speed but when using rsync for file transfer from NFS datastore to HDD datastore on ESXi host I get transfer speed in kb/s. Any idea what could be causing this slow transfer speed ?
I'm using rsync in case of network interruptions.
Thanks
Hey Guys,
I am seeing the below "ESXi host with problematic Broadcom FCoE driver" in the vCenter Health Recommendations.
The notes that come with this warning reads the below:
ESXi host might crash with a purple diagnostic screen error caused while trying to allocate an input/ output clock. The issue is fixed since driver version 12.0.1216.4. Click the Ask VMware link above for further details.
The warnings are seen on all ESXi hosts in our vCenter Inventory and I've seen this at multiple customers. I also check and confirmed that the version of the brcmfcoe driver is below the recommended version mentioned above.
I logged a case with GSS however their recommendation is more of a trial and error method. They are suggesting to
1. Disable the brcmfcoe driver and check if the warnings are gone from the vCenter Health check
OR
2. Upgrade the brcmfcoe to version 12.0.1216.4 or later and check the vCenter Health check again.
Anyone seen the above and got any useful information to provide on this?
Cheers, Onil
Hi team,
Currently we have a issue regarding the vmwaretools on windows server 2019, if we install vmwaretool 11.0.5, our windows server 2019 will have docker run time issue. our windows container will run crashed or hung up there.
error from container:

but if we downgrade to vmwaretool to version 10.X, no issues. Our IT is using ESXI,6.* to create the windows server 2019 environment for us.

please help. thanks.
I have an ESX 6.5.0 Update 2 (Build 8294253) that is a standalone host. It randomly locks up. I know it is locked up because my running VM isn't accessible, I cannot connect to the host using the web gui, and when I got to the console I cannot login. I cannot even get a response from the keyboard by pushing the num lock key. My only option is to power off the physical server and then turn it on again.
I am new to dealing with VM Logs. Is there anything I need to turn on or setup to better log what is happening? What should I be looking for in the log files and in what log file should I be looking?
I generated a support bundle from the last 2 times the server locked up so I can post logs if anyone would like to look at them.
I appreciate any help anyone has to offer.
Thank you.
"More details":
Power On VM
Key: haTask-4-vim.VirtualMachine.powerOn-79278534
Description: Power On this virtual machine
Virtual machine: web3
State: Failed - Insufficient resources.
Errors: Out of resources
I am guessing it is out of disk space somewhere but not quite sure where to check as the 2 existing data stores have about 25+ GB free each!
The VM was working OK the previous day. No configuration changes were made to the erroring VM, however another VM was added which I suspect took up the "resources". Subsequently removed the new VM but the old was still not powering on.
I've searched the forums and around but not found anything related to this specific error.
Any suggestions on how I can get this machine started again?
Hi
I can see on my firewall ONC-RPC session end with timeout.
I didn't find any place that the old server is use.
Any ideas?
Hi everyone,
I recently moved my stand-alone ESXi (was running on a PC) to new hardware; Since that, each time I restart or shutdown my Linux guests (no matter if from vmware or within the host), the host does the same.
Config:
Proliant DL380e Gen8
2x E5-2450L
6x8GB
LSI SAS HBA with:
- 1x300GB disk for VMFS Datastore
- 4x3TB drives passed as RAW disks
4xSATA drives (connected externally through a dedicated PCIe eSATA controller passed to the linux host )
ESXi booting from SD (but logging on A)
ESXi 6.7.0 Update 3 (Build 15160138) installed through HP custom ISO downloaded from vmWare
VMs:
- one windows server host for tape backup (one SCSI and one FC pass-through)
- one multi-puprpose Ubuntu 18.04 guest (mainly serving as NAS)
Had a look at the logs but didn't notice anything peculiar; for example in syslog:
2020-03-25T20:35:00Z crond[2098477]: USER root pid 2139772 cmd /bin/hostd-probe.sh ++group=host/vim/vmvisor/hostd-probe/stats/sh
2020-03-25T20:53:42Z watchdog-vobd: [2097683] Begin '/usr/lib/vmware/vob/bin/vobd', min-uptime = 60, max-quick-failures = 5, max-total-failures = 1000000, bg_pid_file = '', reboot-flag = '0'
there's an hole in between: the machine just restarted in between.
HW seems to be working fine (been running for days without a glitch).
Any idea? Tried to google around but found tons of unrelated stuff about shutting down/restarting guests etc. but nothing related. Beside being quite bothering, that sounds quite a security issue considering the guest doesn't seem to be isolated as it should.
PS: not a production environment so I can run all the required tests.
Thanks for your help/ideas!
I have a Macbook pro with 16GB RAM and running latest macOS. I also have VMware Fusion 10 Pro
running on my MAC. I was informed in LinkedIn that it is possible to install ESXi on a MAC and that it
is free for education purposes. I took a very intensive course on VMware vSphere 6.5 and would like
to gain some hands-on experience. Please let me know the step-by-step procedure to install ESXi
on a macbook pro. I am currently looking for job opportunities and some hands-on experience would
be very helpful.
Thank you
