I am investigating why the IO performance of our VM's is poor in comparison to our physical servers connected to the same storage (Dell Compellent SAN).
Here are some figures:

The ESX and physical servers connect to different LUN's on the same storage system (Dell Compellent).
What could typically explain such huge differences in IO performance between physical servers and VM's ?
