UBUNTU 16.4 (client) fails

I followed this guide to install ubuntu. (basic ubuntu 16.4 install) with 4GB of memory, 25gb of HDD.    After the install, my VM freezes like on the video at around 12:45.  I follow the advice of the op and I changed the display memory to 16MB from the default 4, but my ubuntu still freezes shortly after booting and logging in.
