Is there a standard testing method for new a ESX host before putting it into production?

As the title says, I’m curious if there is a standard for preproduction testing of an ESX host? I’ve done a fresh 3.5 build many years ago, a migration from 4.1 to 5.1, and a migration from 5.1 to 5.5 . My methodology has always been quite simple, once the host is up, is connected to the vCenter, has the networking configured, the HBA's or CNA’s are connected to the correct LUN’s displaying the Datastores I’m looking for. I normally create a test vm, migrate it around a number of different vlan’s to prove network connectivity, perform a number of storage vmotions, then move a few other test machines from other existing hosts to it to prove standard vmotion works. My group had been recently asked what our plan is and that’s generally all we’ve done, wasn’t sure if that’s what everyone else normally did.

Am I missing anything or does someone have a solidly written testing plan that is generally followed?
