Dear all,
Bear with me, I am quite new to ESXI, but not new to virtualisation or computers.
I have a Ziton fire panel which is connected to a PC via an RS-485 serial link. This was running on my standard PC with Win 2012 using XP on a VMware player VM connected via an RS-485 converter to Com1 Prior to upgrading my server with no issues at all.
However, on my new Dell R510 which has only 1 com port running ESXI 6.7 I am expirencing some weird issues. When the XP VM is powered up, the comms link starts, then within a few seconds it stops responding. (this is shown visually on the program) DATA is passing through to the panel, then within a minute, it goes into fault. reboot, reset same. All of the serial options have been eliminated, including checking the settings against the host, I tried altering the buffers in the VM for the Com port, changed the com port number and speeded up and slowed down the baud rate but no luck there.
I have even started fresh with a new VM and downgraded it to Win2k (which is what the panel software was designed for) and this provided some relief as the panel remained connected and DATA passed through, but when I tried to download some live DATA via Maestro, nothing happens, it just times out and errors saying there is no comms betweed the com port and the panel. (I proved this by looking and there were no comms lights in the panel)
I have also tried the serial0.tryNoRxLoss = "TRUE" option in the config file, but this stops comms altogether. and it still won't get rid of serial0:overrun in the logs. I don't know where to look to find out why there is a delay on the comms between the host and the VM, as on my other PC it worked fine.
I do have a USB serial adapter, but have read that these won't work with ESXI 6.7 is this correct? Also, how do you change the buffer settings for the COM port within ESXI host configuration? (Specifically turning the FIFO buffers on and off) as this maybe why there is a delay in the comms getting out of the host and back again.
Thank you for helping.
