esx4i - inetd won't run

Hi, after a hd fail/replace/raid rebuild inetd won't start as a service.  If fails quietly during startup and cannot be manually started post boot.

I've gone through the logs and there isn't any entry that indicates what is now wrong.

I've checked the inetd.conf file.

I've checked the services port list.

I've used ps | grep inetd and ps x | more to doublecheck.

Any ideas?  I'm at a loss.  Thanks.
