I just wanted to share an incident and the resolution of such on an Esxi4.0 machine. It relates to a digium compatible voip card in a pci slot (which was in passthru mode to a virtual machine running elastix).
After adding a pcie LAN card I found my elastix installation would not power up with the message:
device 001.00.0 not found
Researching the problem, I found that elastix could be restarted after removing the pcie LAN card. Phew! The corresponding entry for the pci slot holding the digum card lies in the file /etc/vmware/esx.conf and was:
/device/000:10.0/owner = "passthru"
(but you don't have to tweak the file)
Researching this further, I found under the Configuration tab, Advanced Settings, the passthrough Configuration page had the digium card's Device ID as:
01:00.0
and going into the elastix machine under 'edit virtual machine settings', 'hardware' similarly identified the digium card as 01:00.0
Following the appropriate steps to reinsert the pci-e LAN card and then rechecking Configuration tab, Advanced Settings, I found the digium card was now listed as:
03:00.0 and going to 'edit virtual machine settings' then 'hardware'.... the card was missing!
So thats why the card was not seen and elastix would not start. The fix is now obvious, ie:
1. Power off elastix
2. Remove the digium card, originally referenced as 01:00.0 but now missing in action, as a PCI device. Do this via 'edit virtual machine settings' then 'hardware', 'add' then choose 'PCI device'
3. Add the digium as it is now seen, ie as device 03:00.0
4. Restart elastix
All should then be well!
To improve the metadata for anyone else searching for a fix on this vmware problem, the error message could easily be:
device 002.00.0 not found
device 003.00.0 not found
device 004.00.0 not found
