We've been seeing ESXi hosts disconnect from vCenter for approximately 2-12 minutes.  After this period, the host reconnects back to the vCetner server.  This happens about 2-3 times per 24 hours.  DNS and general networking seem fine.  From vpxd's perspective, we see timeouts due to components not responding during host sync requests.

During this time period, we see some interesting log messages in vpxa.log:

We see 2-5 of the following messages.  This message appears at the begining of the event, and is also interspursped throughout the event:

So far, we have found no suspicious messages in the hostd or vmkernel logs.

Hello. Has anyone else been able to add an Intel (530) SSD as a datastore on ESXi 6.0?

I've tried multiple times unsuccessfully. It starts the process and shows it in the recent tasks as "Create VMFS datastore", but after that it just keeps running and never completes.

I've added 3 other non-SSD (Hitachi and 2 Western Digital) drives without any problem.

I've "cleaned" the SSD by attaching it to a Win7 system and using diskpart to erase any other partitions:

diskpart^

select disk x^

clean^

exit^

and then marked it as active with a GPT format.

I tried reinstalling a clean copy of ESXi and then adding it, but got the same results.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Or is the problem related to the (type of) SSD?

This may be trivial and note that I am not an expert.

We have ESXi 5.5 running on an HP rack server and many VMs are hosted.  Users use VMware Workstation and connect to the server to see the list VM's available to them.  The page showing the VM's shows name and status and I want to be able to have another column there showing a more full description of what each VM is for.  Can this page be customised and how?

Along the lines of the question above, if a user does not have Workstation, has anyone built, seen or purchased some web page showing the list of VM's, status and description as described above?  I am looking for something other than vSphere client.

I just upgraded my FREE ESXi 4.1U1 system to FREE ESXi 5. So far so good. The box is working fine so far.

The problem I have is when editing the settings of a VM especially, when I press the "Add"-Button to add some new

devices e.g. a new harddisk.

Or when I press "Edit" under "Configuration->Licensed Features"

Nothing happens for about 15 seconds and then the following error message appers:

The request failed because the remote server '192.168.1.10' took to long to respond. (The command has timed out

as the remote server is taking to long to respond.)

This only happens in the situations mentioned above. All other dialogs and settings seem work fine.

- Re-Registering VMs in the inverntory doesn't help (As seen it is not only a VM related problem --> Licensed features as well)

- I disabled Desktop Firewall and Antivirus

- vSphere Client version is: 5.0.0 / 455964

- It happens for existing and for new VMs.

- I can remove devices such as Floppy Drive. That works fine.

Any idea how I can get back the ability to "Add" devices to my VMs?

I have x2 ESXi servers each running a single VM (Windows Server 2003 OS).

I am looking at the best options to view my virtual machines. In particular I need something that will automatically connect and display the VMs upon ESXi startup.

I have looked at Remote Desktop and VNC, both of which work reasonably well. I also came across VMware Remote Console recently. However, I want to know if there is a way of automatically starting this upon a VM in my ESXI server starting up. Basically there must be no operator action in getting the viewing console up and running, it must all magically happen in the background.

Different to previous Version 5.5, there is no option "NAS" if i choose "add Storage":

But, if I try to install ESXi 6.5 via "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0-4564106.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00" on Dell PowerEdge R730, my vmnic0 and vmnic1 (Intel X710 DP 10Gb DA/SFP+) are not working !!!

Hey all, it's been a while - hope all is well!  I'm looking for some insight on a scratch space solution.  I have blades with 64GB mirrored SDs and using them to boot locally.  I have storage arrays at my disposal, but I'd prefer to keep it local, since the SDs are mirrored and they are so big.

Since 6.5 doesn't show the local OS as a datastore - any directory I create there doesn't persist of course.

Thoughts?

Hi guys.

We have an issue with a ESXI 6.5 standalone host that fails with "non-system found" message. VMFS disk are there.

But, I can't attach it or access any data.

At cli I had run some commands and seems like the partition table was lost.

You guys have some idea to try recover it?

I am using the following SuperMicro blade server in a datacenter. Or rather, I am a customer/tenant using one of the X9SRD-F blades.

Apparently this hardware WAS supported for VMWare 5.0 Release 1, but not for any newer versions.

The hardware is still being sold new by SuperMicro, and I have learned it costs around $5,000 just for the chassis, power supplies, and motherboards, without including any CPUs, memory, or drives. The blades have four memory slots and can have up to 128 gig, or 4x32gig ECC sticks, plus a low-profile PCIE x8 slot per blade.

So this is "hardcore datacenter" equipment for super dense environments. It isn't some cheap consumer toy motherboard from some no-name off-brand manufacturer. Yet it is not supported with any newer versions of VMWare?

Someone please explain.

1. If you configured in a host the sequence of power on / off for the VMs, does it mean that the first VM to start will also be the first to shut down or the last one to shutdown?

2. Which will power on first rule? HA rule (priority) or the host power sequence?

3. If the VM is configured to power on as #1 in Host 1, when it is vmotioned / DRS / HA to a different host with no specific rule / sequence.... will it still follow the power sequence on the new host or the new host?

I downloaded the 6.5a release from feb 2017 and it is horrible to manage. I cant see how this made it out of QA. Is 6.5u1 available as a free product or is that only for paying customers? Ive used the 3.x-5.x products for years with the app, but that looks to no longer be supported. However, needing to reboot the host to login, substantial browser variance, and tabs/lists that wont fill in make this a total fail.

We are tried perform patching at environment at cluster level.( by VUM )

We have 4 hosts in cluster.

hosts: ESXi 6u1

We start install patches on 1st host with successful.

During vMotion from second host and now  4th host ( We dont tested yet cmp3 ) tasks stuck at 13%

Some advices ?

I deployed three Win2008 R2 VMs from the same template and made the mistake of not using customization to change the SID. I have verified using PsGetsid that all three have the same SID. These three VMs are my domain controllers/DNS/DHCP. I found this article on how to use sysprep to change SIDs on a Windows 2008 R2 server:

Two questions:

1. Am I going to run into problems in having all three of my DCs/DNS/DHCP servers with the same SID?

2. Can I use the method shown in the above article to change the SID on two of these servers? One of these DCs hold all the roles so I would change it on the other two. I am gun shy about messing around with these machines considering their importance

Trying to add disk in VM

SDRS cluster receive the error

"StorageResourceManager.RecommendDatastores" for object "StorageResourceManager" on vCenter Server " vCenter" failed

To work around this issue :-

Disable Storage DRS, now we are able to add the disk in VM.

Can any one help for permanent solution for the same.

Eu tenho 2 switches configurados com uma VLAN dedicada para SAN. Meus hosts serão conectados também nesse range de portas da VLAN.

A pergunta é, eu também tenho que configurar essa VLAN lá em Networking do vSphere ESXi? Ou simplesmente por haver roteamento não precisa configurar?
