Hi all,

We were able to download VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-5224934-HPE-600.10.1.0.73-Jul2017.iso, but we cannot find the previous iso VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-Update3-5050593-HPE-600.9.7.0.17-Feb2017. Could you provide a link for this last one?

Thanks a lot,

Jaime

Where is the "handshakeTimeoutMs" defenition for SSL handshake/timeouts in ESXI 6.X?

$

I was getting this "alarm.HostConnectionStateAlarm changed status from Green to Red " and I remember in ESXi 5.X you would edit that value in /etc/vmware/rhttpproxy/config.xml

however in all the ESXi 6.0 hosts I looked at, none of them have a "handshakeTimeoutMs" definition like they did before.

(Ref: KB 1020210)

Does anyone know where that's defined now in 6.X ?

TIA!

Upgrade to ESXi 6.5, installer doesn't find USB stick

Dear all,

I'm currently running an ESXi 6.0 Update2 on a USB stick, with  a Supermicro X9SRL-F motherboard (internal USB connector, also tried external connector). Last night I tried to update this server to ESXi 6.5, without success. The ESXi 6.5 installer sees all hard disks connected, but not the USB stick I'd like to upgrade. I tried a refresh (F5), without any success.

Anyone else having this problem? I've loaded the ESXi 6.5 installer via netbook/PXE (IPMI remote console/cd-rom doesn't work anymore due to Java issues).

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Chris

Task: Download VMXConfig

Good afternoon,

I have 2 Host ESXI 6.5 managed by vCenter 6.5, when I access one of the Host in local mode through the browser it costs a bit to load the main page, and it is because in the recent tasks the following message appears several times:

Download VMXConfig None VC Internal 01/08/2018 16:42:47 08/01/2018 16:42:47 Completed correctly. 01/08/2018 04:42:47

I do not know why I'm loading that task because it confuses me, I would appreciate information on why this happens.

Thank you very much

ESXi 5.5 - update using dell custom image failed

I installed (or attempted to install) a Dell Custom image in ZIP format from here:

VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 3 Driver Details | Dell US

Using the command:

esxcli software profile update -p Dell-ESXi-5.5U3-5230635-A09 -d /vmfs/volumes/564963e0-8ddcddbb-4175-1418772655ff/VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.5.0.update03-5230635.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A09.zip

I didn't see any errors, and it says installed many VIBs, including e.g.

Dell_bootbank_dell-configuration-vib_5.5-3A09

VMware_bootbank_esx-base_5.5.0-3.101.5230635

However, after rebooting the host, the build esx-base and dell-configuration-vib are still the same versions as from before I did the install:

# esxcli software vib list | grep -iE "(esx-base|dell-config)"

dell-configuration-vib         5.5-3A01                               Dell    PartnerSupported  2015-11-13

esx-base                       5.5.0-3.100.4722766                    VMware  VMwareCertified   2017-01-20

I suspect I'm doing something wrong?  Please let me know if I need to provide more information.

VMFS datastore doesn't match partition size

I'm on an ESXi 6.5 host using VMFS-6.

I expanded a LUN and tried to increase space on the VMFS datastore to use the new free space. It looks like the underlying partition was re-sized but the VMFS datastore might not have been?

WORKER: asyncOps=0 maxActiveOps=0 maxPending=0 maxCompleted=0

This translated to a size of exactly 16TB. Now using partedUtil to see the underlying partition

partedUtil getptbl /dev/disks/naa.61866da0893cb3002014ac3163f4852b

gpt

partedUtil reports that the partition it's occupying is a full 18.9TB by calculating (last sector - first sector) * 512bytes per sector

I'm not sure what happened during the attempt to increase the datastore size but now the vsphere-client reports that there's no additional empty space to grow the datastore.

Do I need to manually grow the datastore using vmkfstools?

Upgrade Dell PE2900 from 5.5 to 6.x?

I want to upgrade our single ESXi host to the newest version of ESXi possible but I’ve only done this with newer Dell servers that have the customized images for the specific model. They made it very easy but in this case I cannot do that as this is an older server (Dell PE2900) so there is no ESXi customized image on their site.

  1. What’s the newest version I can upgrade to on that box (ESXi and vCenter Server Appliance)
  2. Do I need to change anything with the license if I can upgrade to 6.x?
  3. How do I know the correct drivers will be included in the newer version? Is there a compatibility checker?
  4. What’s my install order again? I think it was to upgrade Vcenter server appliance first, the ESXi. I know the vpshere client has been depreciated in the newer version

Thanks in advance!

Here is the current version:

Cannot connect to ESXi vSphere Web Client

Hi,

Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question.

So I have a server at home with a ESXi 6.5 install that had been working fine. I have setup and managed VM's and been able to connect to the them without issue. However this has changed. I had to shutdown the server as I needed to relocate it. However now when I started it up I cannot connect to the web client and I get the browser error 10.0.0.200 refused to connect. I have an address reservation on my router for the esxi server which I can see from the server that it has picked up that address (10.0.0.200) and I can ping the server. I can also ping the network from the server using the trouble shooting options. I have also restarted the server, restarted the management network, enabled ssh and restarted services via the command line. I have also done all this on the server directly too using esxcli.

I used nmap to scan the server and can confirm that ports 80 and 443 are not open however other expected ports are, so there is obviously a problem with the web service somewhere but I can't pinpoint it. I have restarted and ensured hostd is running however no joy.

Any help with this would be great as I can't find another problem or solution to this anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

VM's lose network connectivity randomly

We have been experiencing some VM's losing network connectivity sporadically. The VM's stay online for a while then suddenly it acts like it is no longer on the network. Everything appears to be correct. The vNICs are connected and you can get to the console. I can't ping it from outside the host and the VM can't ping it's Def Gateway.

Hardware is 4 HP Gen 8 LFF with Quad port NIC's HP NC364T running ESXi 5 U1 with vCenter Server clustered.

Anyone experience this?

If I vmotion it to another host it comes back online. That's been our temporary solution.

Thanks

OpenGL 3.0 on ESXi

Hello,

I want to have a virtual machine in ESXi 5.5 that allows us to render works made with Sketchup. The latest version of this software requires openGL 3.0, but my virtual machine reports that it only supports OpenGL 2.1 (3d acceleration is activated)

I've tried updating the vmwaretools to the latest version that supports OpenGL 3.0. But nothing has changed.

My question if this would be resolved by updating to ESXi 6.5. Or maybe it's a problem with the graphics card installed on the ESXi server? If it is this. What card could you install to get this feature?

Thank you

Esxi Lock

Hello,

I need some feedback regarding a problem we had on production. The reason apresented is not the best for me.

Cenario:

Cluster VMWare with 16 ESXhost

8 host on site A 8 hosts site B

Both Sites are active

Problem:

SAN Switch on Site B did force reboot

Description:

When SAN switch came back live again the hosts on Site B could not see 2 Datastores and on Site A those Datastores became unavailable.

Did reboot on all ESX hosts on site B same problem, (we noticed that there has one of this hosts that had locks)

Does not  the reboot releases the lock lun?

VMware Support identified that Storage LUN ID of those LUN's where different on both sites, they where crossed. (for me this was the problem)

Conclusion:

Storage provider says that the problem was the host lock and that a reboot does not free the locking

Can you please give me your feedback regarding this cenario

I have my ESXi 6.5 server up for about 3 months without issue. Starting a few days ago an error occurs on login. If I choose "reload" I'm returned to logon splash seems to be in a loop. If I use the browser refresh ( found this out by accident) instead of the reload button it makes to the navigation page. Do I need to rebuild my server?

How do Meltdown/Spectra affect VMware

Hello everyone,

I manage a dozen VMware ESXi 6.0 servers i a clustered environment consisting of 4 clusters.

My question is: Will they affect ESXi only, or will they affect the guest operating systems as well?

My service provider (SoftLayer) will most likely do an upgrade this week to address the issue at ESXi level.

Do I need to update the guest OS as well? Most of them are CentOS7 and our repositories are already updated.

Transfering datastorage LUNs via RDM disk to\from Windows VM: issue

$

Dear sirs,

I'm testing esxi 6.5 on one of the hosts, now i've hit weird issue.

One Rdm disk is connected to Windows VM (tried both virtual and physical compat. modes) which is direct connection to LUN "test" from my SAN datastore (Fujitsu Eternus DX100s4)

And I have some data there on disk. (20TB, ReFS filesystem, GPT type partition)

Now, I disconnected RDM disk from VM and removed rdm disk files from datastore (actually just a descriptors as far as i understand). Then i'm mapped that test LUN to Windows 2016 physical server via SAN (mutlipath drivers are enabled on that Windows server).

But it's shows that disk as RAW filesystem, despite that it also shows, that it's initialized and GPT type. But the actual partition is RAW type.

So, I connected it back, adding that disk back to same old VM - it's working - data is there!

So,  I've made second test LUN on my SAN storage, that time i initialized it on physical Windows server, copied some data to it and then put it offline.

Then connected it also as RDM to the same old VM - boom! Also partition is RAW and not usable.

What am i doing wrong?
