I do have a Crucial BX300 SSD on the SATA connections.  The odd thing about it is that it's showing latency in the order of 10-15 ms with minimal IO to that when in use.  This system was stable under 6.5 and similar load/guest OSs (nested ESXi hosts), but that was strictly using the Samsung NVMe SSD + NAS storage (the crucial drive wasn't connected ever).  I'm going to offload the Crucial disk and just use the NVMe Samsung and NAS again for a bit to see if that stabilizes the system for more than a week.

It took about 2-3 weeks of uptime to finally PSOD and produce the issue again (Second time) so I could actually capture data.

ESXi 6.5 new VM will NOT boot iso

Hi,

I'm trying to build a new CentOS VM.  I downloaded the iso last night, moved it over to my server this morning and built the VM.  I choose the CD/DVD Drive as an ISO and connect at power on; however, every time I power on the VM it tries to boot from the LAN, but never seems to boot the ISO.  I've tried  multiple times(re-selecting the ISO), no luck.

help?

What is NFSv3-RemountHandler and how do I prevent this from occurring?

Many months ago, I re-IP'd my NFS share, from 192.168.20.161 to 192.168.30.161. I looked on my firewall today and noticed a ton of traffic where my ESXi is attempting to reach out to the old NFS share.

How do I stop it from reaching out to 192.168.20.161? Where is this controlled?

[root@esxi:~] esxcli network ip connection list | grep 161
tcp         0       0  192.168.30.200:641    192.168.20.161:111    SYN_SENT        66374  newreno  NFSv3-RemountHandler
tcp         0       0  192.168.30.200:689    192.168.30.161:2049   ESTABLISHED     66375  newreno  NFSv3-ServerMonitor

My one NFS share properly shows 192.168.30.161 in the GUI.

Can anyone help me determine if ESXi 6 is compatible with this server? I've tried contacting the manufacturer and searching VMware's compatibility site. The processor is not listed.

ESXI with static IP preventing console to VM

$

Hi all,

So I am on VMWare ESXI 6.7 running a vm host. I set a static IP on the ESXI host of 192.168.1.254 (prior it had a 192.168.1.14 DHCP address) and it accepts it. When I go login via the web interface via 192.168.1.254 it works. However when I try to open a console to a VM (browser console) via the web interface I am unable to connect because the web interface is still using 192.168.1.14. I can tell its trying to do this because If I try to connect via VMRC, the VMRC app will time out trying to connect to 192.168.1.14.  So something in the web interface is still using the old ip address of 192.168.1.14 for some reason. In the top right corner of the web interface after logging in it also says root@192.168.1.14 which is incorrect.

I tried many things:

Rebooting the ESXI host.

Clearing Cookies on my browser.

Rebooting my only VM.

None of this has worked, and I can tell that vmk0 has the correct ip 192.168.1.254 (static) assigned. This seems like a bug but how can this be fixed?

I have a HP ProLiant DL360 Generation 6

I have 2x 10gig pci cards that are causing a hang during boot on the yellow screen, I didn't bother reboot and try again, I just disabled them. The question is:

Can i install drives for it on my VMware ESXI?

Brand of card is Intel 10Gbe XF SR SERVER ADAPTER 893264

Port Number closed in ESXi 6.7

I have an application accessible with https: // IP-Address:Port-Number.

Installed as a VM in Workstation Pro it is still perfectly accessible.

On the other hand, if installed as a VM in ESXi 6.7 it is not accessible.

If I try to login without the Port-Number, I get a denied access, so in my opinion the port is closed. How do I open it?

Thanks in advance.

ESXi 6.0.0, 9239799 vmware tools breakage

I just upgraded from ESXi 6.0.0, 7967664 to 9239799 via the handy web link:

https://esxi-patches.v-front.de/

After the system came back up, all VMs are reporting, "Running, (Unsupported)" for vmware tools

Browsing to the vmimages shows the folder is empty.

From a ssh console, I show the below in /storage/packages

drwxr-xr-x1 root root         8 Nov 19  2016 6.5.0
drwxr-xr-x1 root root         8 Nov 19  2016 var

Is anybody else seeing this?  Is the fix just as simple as copying the 6.5.0 folder to 6.0.0?

Thanks,

Doug

Apcupsd on ESXi, SATA pass through

$

Hello,

I consider moving my private environment from XenServer to ESXi.

In my current setup I have running apcupsd directly on the XenServer connected to a small APC-UPS via USB.

The deamon shut down all VM and then the host when the battery is getting low.

Is it possible to configure this on an ESXi host in the same or similar way?

I only found configurations using a seperate server for apcupsd or PowerShute Network Shutdown.

For backup reason one of the SATA ports of the mainboard is passed through to a specific VM.

If a hard disk is connected to that port it will appear inside the virtual machine.

I guess ESXi can manage this.

Does anyone has a how to for it?

Thank you!
